🚀 Getting Started

What is TrailRig?

TrailRig is a free iOS app for mountain, road, and gravel riders. It has five tabs — Garage (track your bikes & components), Search Parts (find and compare spare parts), Price Stalker (get alerted when prices drop), Events (follow race calendars), and Settings. Everything stays on your device.

Is TrailRig really free?

Yes — free to download and use, with no ads and no account. A few advanced features (like iCloud Sync and Price Stalker) are part of an optional one-time Pro purchase. No subscription, ever.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There’s no login, no sign-up, and no password to forget. Everything you enter lives on your device — your garage is yours alone. 🔒

Which devices does TrailRig run on?

iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. A Mac version is in the works — the same app, on your desktop.

🔧 Garage & Components

How do I add my first bike?
  1. Open the Garage tab.
  2. Tap “+ Add Bike”.
  3. Give it a name (e.g. “Enduro” or the model), choose a type, and save.
  4. Open the bike to start adding components — Frame, Fork, Drivetrain, Brakes, and more.
💡 Add components as you go — even a rough setup is enough to start tracking service intervals.
What can I record for each component?

For every part you can log brand, model, install date, serial number, purchase price, and weight — plus a full service history so you always know what’s fitted and when it was last serviced. Multi-piece parts (like brakes or wheels) can even track each piece separately.

How do I scan a barcode or QR code?
  1. While adding or editing a component, tap “Scan Barcode / QR Code”.
  2. Point your camera at the code — or pick a photo from your library.
  3. TrailRig reads it and, for major brands (Fox, SRAM, Shimano, DT Swiss, Trek and more), auto-fills what it can.
  4. Review the details and tap Apply.
📷 No luck with a code? You can always type the details in by hand.
How do I add photos of my bike or parts?

Open a bike or component, tap the photo gallery, and add pictures from your library or camera. They’re stored on your device and included in your backups.

How do I search for a part?
  1. Open the Search Parts tab.
  2. Tap a category (e.g. Brakes → Disc Brakes) or type a term in the search bar.
  3. Tap any result to open it at the shop.
  4. Use Filters and Sort to narrow by brand, size, price, and more.
Why do the prices sometimes differ from the shop?

Prices shown are indicative — pulled from partner feeds and refreshed periodically. The amount you actually pay at checkout can differ because of shipping, promotions, or currency, so always confirm on the shop’s own page before buying.

Does TrailRig make money when I buy something?

TrailRig may earn a small affiliate commission if you buy through a link — at no extra cost to you. It’s how the app stays free and ad-free. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Why don’t I see results for every category?

Results come from partner shops for your Search Region (set in Settings). If a category is empty, that store may not stock it, or may not ship to your country — try a different term or adjust your region.

🔔 Price Stalker (Pro)

How do I start watching a part’s price?
  1. In Search Parts, find the part you want.
  2. Tap the purple “Stalk” button on that result.
  3. Set your target — a percentage off or an exact price — and save.
  4. It now appears in the Price Stalker tab, checked automatically. 🎯
💡 You can also open the Price Stalker tab and tap “Watch a Component” to add one manually. Up to 10 watches with Pro.
How often are prices checked, and how will I know?

Watched items are checked automatically about once a day. When one hits your target you get a notification — and the item shows the cheapest in-stock price it found, with a one-tap Buy link to the store.

How do I pause or turn off an alert?

In the Price Stalker tab, tap the bell icon on a watched item to toggle its alerts on or off. To stop watching entirely, swipe the item to delete it.

⭐ TrailRig Pro

What do I get with Pro?

Pro unlocks Price Stalker, Ride Log (import rides from Apple Health), Weight Tracking, iCloud Sync, and Family Sharing 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 — plus every future Pro feature we add.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. Pro is a one-time purchase — pay once and it’s yours forever. No recurring charges and nothing to cancel.

Can my family use my Pro purchase?

Yes — Pro supports Apple’s Family Sharing, so up to 5 family members can use it at no extra cost.

I already bought Pro but it’s not showing — how do I get it back?
  1. Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple ID you purchased with.
  2. Open the Pro screen in the app.
  3. Tap “Restore Purchases”.
Restoring is free and re-links your existing purchase — you won’t be charged again.

☁️ iCloud Sync & Backup

How does iCloud Sync work?

With Pro, your garage syncs automatically across your Apple devices through your own private iCloud account. Add a component on your iPhone and it appears on your iPad — no manual steps, no separate account.

How do I move everything to a new phone?
  1. With Pro: turn on iCloud Sync and sign in with the same Apple ID on the new phone — your garage restores automatically.
  2. Without Pro: use a backup file (below) — export on the old phone, import on the new one.
How do I back up or restore my data?
  1. Open Settings → Backup & Restore.
  2. Tap Export to save everything — bikes, components, photos, and history — as one file to Files or iCloud Drive.
  3. To restore, tap Import and choose your backup file.
💾 Your data lives on your device, so export a backup before switching phones or deleting the app.
Are my backups encrypted?

The exported backup file is not encrypted or password-protected — it’s a plain file so you can open, move, or restore it freely. That means anyone who gets the file can read what’s in it (your bikes, components, prices, and photos). Once it leaves the app it’s only as private as wherever you save it, so keep backups somewhere trusted — like your own iCloud Drive or a password-protected location — and avoid sharing them. Your on-device data and iCloud Sync remain encrypted (see “How secure is my data?” below).

🛡️ Privacy & Data

How secure is my data?

On your device: your data is protected by iOS Data Protection — it’s encrypted at rest, tied to your device passcode and Secure Enclave, so it’s locked whenever your phone is. 🔒
App Lock: if you set a PIN, only a secure hash of it is stored — in the device Keychain, never as plain text and never synced off your device. Face ID / Touch ID are handled entirely by iOS.
iCloud Sync (Pro): data syncs through your own private iCloud account, encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest.
Exported backups: the one exception — backup files are not encrypted, so store them somewhere private (see “Are my backups encrypted?” above).

Where is my data stored?

On your device. TrailRig has no servers holding your personal data and no account system. If you enable Pro’s iCloud Sync, your data lives in your own private iCloud — governed by Apple’s privacy policy, not ours.

Does TrailRig track me or show ads?

Neither. There’s no cross-app tracking, no analytics SDKs, and no ad networks. When you search for parts, only the search terms go to our backend to fetch results — with no personal information attached.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings → Delete My Account & Data to permanently remove everything on your device. Because it’s all stored locally, deleting the app also erases your data. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
